Tensar TriAx™ Geogrid Stabilization

Tensar TriAx™ is an revolutionary geogrid developed by Tensar to improve performance over standard Tensar biaxial geogrids. Tensar TriAx™ TX160 geogrid can be used in road construction , porous paving installations and slope stabilization by spreading loads and reducing the granular stone sub-base required.

Tensar TriAx TX-160 has seen engineered developments to the profile of the rib section, junction efficiency, mesh aperture size and the in-plane stiffness. The TriAx™ is produced to a equilateral triangle, the most stable geometric shape, where standard biaxial geogrids are produced in a a rectangular or square structure which is a less efficient and a less strong shape.

Tensar have carried out extensive independent tests that show TriAx™ to have a superior performance to Tensar biaxial geogrids in multi-directional stiffness and hence aggregate confinement, enabling a reduction in granular layer thickness.

TriAx™ TX160 geogrids stabilize the ground by increasing load bearing capacity and controlling differential settlement. TriAx™ also reduces layer thickness and can be used in the construction profile of Boddingtons' BodPave®85 porous paving system.

Tensar TriAx™ geogrid provides exceptional performance :

  • Scientifically proven to functionally outperform Tensar biaxial geogrids
  • Reduces sub-base requirement compared with Tensar biaxial geogrids
  • Reduces whole life cost
  • 360° directional properties

Tensar TriAx TX160 geogrid installation Structure of Triax geogrid (TX160)

TriAx's™ unique structure incorporates many physical characteristics which outperforms Tensar biaxial geogrids in trafficking applications. When combined with a suitable aggregate TriAx™ produces a mechanically stabilized layer with exceptional performance.

LOAD DISTRIBUTION - 3-dimensional in nature and acts radially at all levels in the aggregate

MULTI-DIRECTIONAL PROPERTIES - TriAx™ geogrids have three principal directions of stiffness, enhanced by their rigid triangular geometry providing stiffness through 360°. Standard biaxial geogrids have tensile stiffness predominantly in two directions.

JUNCTION INTEGRITY - TriAx™ has high junction strength and stiffness.

JUNCTION EFFICIENCY - The high strength junctions and stiff ribs provide effective a mechanical interlock with the apertures for aggregate particles (stone, rock).

GREATER INTERLOCK AND CONFINEMENT - In a mechanically stabilized layer, aggregate particles interlock within the geogrid and are confined within the apertures, creating an enhanced composite material with improved performance characteristics.

Tensar TriAx™ structural features have been proved to have the following benefits Tensar biaxial geogrids, including:

  • Confinement of aggregate is improved
  • Enhanced performance of a mechanically stabilized layer
  • Increased traffic life for a given sub-base thickness
  • Reductions to sub-base thicknesses for a given traffic load
